Giving new life to our church pews

Giving new life to our church pews

In recent months, our parish has been working to improve the space where our future media team will serve. What began as a practical need for additional space and secure storage for recently upgraded equipment has grown into a project shaped by patience, creativity, and a desire to honour the beauty of our church.

Our previous audio-visual desk seated only one person, yet we needed space to comfortably support up to three. Rather than introducing something that would distract from the prayerful atmosphere of the church, we hoped for a design that would sit naturally within the space, quietly supporting the liturgy in the background.

With the generous assistance of Zac Parnell overseeing the build, Paul Eichorn, a relief teacher serving across our parish schools, and Peter Hayes from Newman Senior Technical College, a design process unfolded through many thoughtful revisions. Each refinement helped shape something both practical and in harmony with the character of the church.

One of the most meaningful aspects of the project was the repurposing of timber from pews that were removed to create more accessible seating for parishioners with mobility needs. These pews, which have served our community for many years, now continue to serve in a new form.

The finished cabinet is everything we had hoped for: sturdy, secure, beautifully crafted, and unobtrusive. It is now in place to support a small team of parishioners who will assist with audio, media, and livestreaming during our liturgies.

If you feel drawn to this emerging ministry, view our current volunteering opportunities. No experience is necessary and training will be provided. We would be pleased to hear from you. This is a meaningful way to serve behind the scenes and help enhance our celebrations in a simple and valuable way.

We extend our heartfelt thanks to Zac, Paul, Peter, and Newman Senior Technical College for their skill, patience, and generosity throughout this project.
